Here is my friend Gail Klanchesser, Owner/Instructor at Coastal CPR & First Aid, LLC. I assisted Gail in teaching a class on the seacoast. We had a great time! Thank you Gail for inviting me!

It has been a learning experience with regard to working with a company to provide education in CPR, AED and First Aid as well as initiating a dialogue about company Internal Medical Emergency Response Plans. I have found that there is anywhere from 25 to 75% participation and knowledge of such a plan with most companies I have worked with. None at 100% yet. I am making it a mission! Anyone out there experience the same issue, and if so, have you been able to come up with a way to improve the situation without overstepping your boundaries?

The AHA provides a student refresher CD in training materials and can be used to refresh students minds of the critical skills required to perform CPR and use an AED. I have had many requests for such a thing. Any of you?

In the past year I have conducted many CPR and AED training courses. It has truly amazed me how many times I have heard "We have an AED, but no one knows how to use it or what to do!" Comments tend to go further with employees announcing they have no idea who the "Go To" person is within the company for CPR, First Aid and AED issues! I have recently been in a company that has an established emergency protocol, but only 50-60% of the employees met know about this protocol. First shift is usually the most informed with a decrease in the percentage of those "on board with the program" with second shift and then third. We truly need to educate all with ongoing refreshers to increase the knowledgeable and decrease the uninformed and unsure! Anyone have any suggestions on how to inform across the board? I have a few thoughts, but lets hear from you!
